David Lunny is a senior member of the litigation team. He is a graduate of the University of Glasgow (M.A. Hons.) and the University of British Columbia (LL.B.) and was trained in mediation at Harvard Law School (Cert.). David was called to the bar of British Columbia in 1980. Formerly a litigation partner in the major Vancouver law firm of Farris & Company, David founded the litigation department of Lunny Atmore’s predecessor firm in 1992. Widely acknowledged as a lawyer of exceptional talent and versatility, he has pursued a successful legal career of uncommon variety and has been involved in many controversial and high profile cases. He is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the International Bar Association and the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C.

Representative Work Highlights

David has extensive experience as senior counsel in trial and appellate proceedings, both civil and criminal, including jury trials, and in appearances before a wide range of administrative and regulatory tribunals and in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution hearings. His practice encompasses a wide range of corporate and commercial litigation involving both domestic and international law issues and he has a broad background also in the conduct of major family, estate, personal injury and white collar crime or securities regulation cases. David has appeared at all levels of Court in British Columbia and in Canada, including the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Harvard trained, he has conducted many alternative dispute resolution hearings (arbitration, mediation or settlement conferences) in Canada and the United States and in London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Tokyo and Singapore.


Outside of the profession, David has been very active in community affairs. For many years, he was General Counsel and latterly the Vice-President of the Canadian Red Cross Society, B.C.-Yukon, Division. He is the Past President of the St. Andrew’s and Caledonian Society of the City of Vancouver, which is Vancouver’s oldest society. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the Centre for Scottish Studies at Simon Fraser University, the Executive Committee of the Patrons Corp. of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion (Pemberton), the Terminal City Club and the Royal Gourock Yacht Club.

He and his wife, Maureen Baird, Q.C., also a well-known member of the legal profession and a partner at Lunny Atmore, assist in and personally sponsor several community activities for high school grads, seniors and a host of other local causes. They enjoy travelling, running, kayaking and the occasional week-ends at Drumkeeran House in Pemberton, B.C. David speaks French and a little conversational German and Spanish.
