German federal agency GIZ opens first U.S. branch office in Charlotte
July 12, 2013
The GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH), Germany’s agency for international cooperation announces the opening of its first United States branch office in Charlotte at the Charlotte Works office building located at 1401 W. Morehead St.
This German federal non-profit enterprise aims to bring the German dual-track training system to the US. This system is based on the cooperation between the public and private sectors: companies and schools jointly develop training course contents, so that trainees can learn both on the job and in a school setting.
Currently, GIZ is implementing 160 educational projects in 60 countries with some 800 education experts on site.
“Charlotte’s workforce system is an ideal fit for this new partnership with GIZ. We’re focused on developing relationships with employers, particularly here in this key North Carolina manufacturing hub, and with other collaborators, to fill the skills gap and get people back to work,” said Steve Partridge, president and CEO of Charlotte Works, the workforce development board for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. “We’re honored that GIZ chose to locate its first U.S. office in Charlotte in our Employer Engagement Center, and we’re excited to see where this venture takes us.”
