100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day

Did you know… March 8th is the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day, and the month of March is Women’s History Month.

International Women’s Day is anannual celebration that highlights women’s economic, political and social achievements. In some countries like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women’s Day is recognized as a national holiday.

According to the United Nations, International Women’s Day was marked for the first time on March 19, 1911 in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland, where more than one million women and men attended rallies. In addition to the right to vote and to hold public office, they demanded the right to work, to vocational training and to an end to discrimination on the job.
